Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, famously known as Evans, the convicted billionaire kidnap kingpin, has made a surprising move by seeking a plea bargain in his ongoing trial for attempted murder.
Evans, along with his co-defendant Joseph Emeka, who is facing charges of murder and attempted kidnapping, has approached the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja for settlement.
The state prosecution counsel, Mr. Yusuf Sule, revealed this development to the court on Thursday during a hearing presided over by Justice Adenike Coker. The case, originally set for re-arraignment, took a different turn when Sule informed the court about Evans’ intention for a plea bargain.
Evans and his co-defendant are expected to be re-arraigned on an amended five-count charge, including murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit felony related to kidnapping. Sule stated that while the case was scheduled for re-arraignment, the defense had applied for a plea bargain.
However, Sule noted that the terms of the plea bargain are currently under consideration by the Attorney-General of Lagos State, Mr. Lawal Pedro (SAN). This development adds a new layer of complexity to the high-profile case of Evans, whose criminal activities have garnered significant attention in Nigeria and beyond.
