Kebbi’s N450m support speeds accreditation of AFUSTA medical college

The Vice-Chancellor of Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology, Aliero (AFUSTA), Professor Danshehu Bagudu Gwadangaji, has disclosed that the release of N450m to the university by the Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris, has significantly helped to hasten the accreditation of the College of Health and Medical Sciences of the institution.

Gwadangaji stated this during the maiden combined convocation of the institution, where over 7,000 graduates have been produced since its establishment in 2006.

While speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor, who thanked Governor Nasir Idris for providing the necessary materials, noted that the financial support has improved infrastructure facilities in the university and enhanced its academic excellence.

According to him, “The Governor provided N450 million for the accreditation of the College of Health and Medical Sciences of the institution.

“The varsity is fully digitalised to modern standard, making our students proud to be associated with it.

“Our mission is to make it a first-class institution and put the university among the top 10 in the country. Our admission has multiplied ten-fold; there are now eight faculties in addition to the College of Health and Medical Sciences,” Prof Gwadangaji said.

In his remark, the Visitor, Governor Nasir Idris, affirmed his commitment to the provision of regular support and finance to the university to maintain academic excellence.

He said: “My administration has effected salary adjustment for the university staff, employed more academic and non-academic staff, as well as converted 41 casual staff into permanent, pensionable appointment.

“I provided N119 million to hold this convocation, which is a milestone. Education is the cornerstone of development; education remains the centre of our development agenda.”

The Visitor to the university, Governor Nasir Idris, who presided over the ceremony, was bestowed with a Doctorate Degree, Doctor of Education (Honoris Causa), while Governor Dauda Lawal Dare of Zamfara State, present at the ceremony, received a Doctor of Science degree (Honoris Causa).

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, represented by his deputy, was conferred with the Doctorate Degree of Engineering (Honoris Causa), while the Governor of Sokoto State, Dr Ahmed Aliyu, received a Doctorate Degree of Technology (Honoris Causa).

The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, was conferred with a Doctorate Degree of Computer (Honoris Causa).

The Emir of Yauri, Dr Muhammad Zayyanu Abdullahi, former Vice-Chancellor, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, was installed as the 1st Chancellor of the university at the convocation by the Visitor, Governor Nasir Idris, who had earlier approved his appointment.
