Kebbi holds mass wedding for over 300 divorcees, widows

Kebbi State Government has held it’s maiden mass wedding for over 300 divorces, widows and the indigents.

The mass wedding,which took place at Emir Gwandu palace in Birnin Kebbi was organised by the Kebbi state government under Hajia Nafisa Nasir Idris, the wife of Kebbi Governor through her NANAS foundation.

While speaking at the occasion,the wife Kebbi governor, hajia Nasir Idris said that, the mass wedding was organised to reduce the high number of divorces and widows who have lost their husbands or had failed marriages.

She also explained that her foundation organised it to assist the less privileged families who could not afford marriage bills by provided them with beds,chairs and kitchen utensils needed to run a home.

 

Nafisa added that it was the responsibility of government to assist the citizenry in the best way it could to give them a sense of belonging.

According to her, “we organised this to assist divorces, widows and the poor so that they will know that they have t a Government ,a Governor, Dr Nasir Idris who care about their welfare.

“My husband has said it at several public functions that he will return governance to the people and he is doing just that through massive projects and welfare to the people of Kebbi state”.

At the occasion, a total of 21m was paid as dowry to brides parents with each bride smiling home with N70,000 dowry, a set of chairs, beds, kitchen utensils and food items.

The mass weddings was attended and presided over by the Kano State famous Islamic cleric, sheik Aminu Daurawa, local government chairmen and top political echlons in Kebbi with heavy attendance from Hisbah officials who are part of the organisers who drew the beneficiaries from the 21 local governments.
