Suspected gunmen believed to be Lakurawa terrorists have burnt a police border checkpoint along the Bakin Ruwa–Maje road in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State and killed two police officers.

The assailants, after killing the officers, also burnt down the tent used by the officers at the checkpoint.

A video of the burnt checkpoint was seen circulating on social media platforms in the state.

This was the third attack along the Bakin Ruwa–Maje border, where gunmen killed officers of the Nigeria Customs Service and the Nigeria Immigration Service before the latest attack on the police.

According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen arrived in large numbers and opened fire, shooting indiscriminately at the checkpoint.

Confirming the incident to newsmen, the Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Bashir Usman, said the attack by the assailants resulted in the death of two officers who were on duty.

He added that the gunmen also set the checkpoint tents ablaze.

“They killed two of our officers and burnt down the checkpoint, but the police are on top of the situation. I will issue further details,” he said.
