The Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris, has noted that his administration places emphasis on human capital development and the empowerment of women and young citizens.
Idris stated this while addressing members of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) during their 2026 National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Birnin Kebbi.
Governor Idris, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar, expressed the state’s readiness to continue to assist and collaborate with any association for the progress of the country.
He noted that the meeting provides an important platform for women journalists to review the activities of the association, deliberate on issues affecting its members and the media profession, and develop strategies for advancing the interests of women journalists and society at large.
Speaking on his administration’s commitment to the empowerment of citizens, Idris said his administration always supports initiatives that would improve the welfare of citizens.
According to him, “As a government that places emphasis on human capital development and the empowerment of women and young people, we are committed to supporting initiatives that improve the capacity, welfare and professional development of women journalists.”
“The support being extended to NAWOJ by the Kebbi State Government is a demonstration of our commitment to partnership and collaboration. I wish to assure you that whenever there is a need for further engagement or support, NAWOJ is welcome, and we will continue to consider areas where government can provide meaningful assistance within available resources.”
“This commitment is not limited to women journalists alone, the government also recognises the contributions of women across different professions, organisations and associations in the development of Kebbi State.”

“We therefore encourage women-led professional and community associations to continue engaging with government constructively, presenting their needs and proposing initiatives that can improve the lives of women, families and communities.”
He urged NAWOJ to continue using its platforms to promote issues affecting women and children, including education, healthcare, economic empowerment, protection from violence and other matters requiring greater public awareness.
In her remarks, the National President of NAWOJ, Hajia Aishatu Ibrahim, commended the support of the Kebbi State Government to the association to enable it to organise the meeting in the state.
She appealed to the members of the association to continue to sustain the peace as well as contribute to the development of the country.
Ibrahim requested that the state government should assist the association with the construction of its secretariat in Abuja, which would serve as a national symbol for women journalists across the country.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajia Halima Kamba, informed the members of NAWOJ that the administration of Governor Idris has been empowering a lot of women and youths across the state irrespective of their background.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Kazim Gunabi, reiterated the commitment of the government to continue to support journalists and other associations for the nation’s development and urged them to continue to uphold professionalism.
