Kebbi State Governor Dr Nasir Idris and the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 8 Division and Commander, Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force, North-West Operation FASAN Yamma, Major-General Bengha Paul Kougha, have inaugurated the Forest Guard at Kangiwa town, headquarters of the Arewa Local Government Area of the state.

Their inauguration is meant to complement the efforts of security agencies in ending frequent attacks by the Lakurawa terrorists and bandits in the area.

While inaugurating the Guard, Kebbi State Governor Dr Nasir Idris, who was represented by the Commissioner for Home Affairs and Internal Security, Haliru Aliyu Wasagu, said that the personnel were carefully selected from within the communities.

“They understand the terrain, the forest, and the unique security dynamic of our environment. Their primary responsibility is to complement the efforts of conventional security agencies by providing timely intelligence, conducting surveillance patrols, and ensuring that criminal elements no longer find safe haven in our forest.”

While addressing the Forest Guard, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division and Commander, Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force, North-West Operation FASAN Yamma, Major-General Bengha Paul Kougha, told them to be ready to sacrifice for the safety of their people.

He said, “When the government gives you guns, it gives you a responsibility, forcing on you a higher responsibility to secure your communities and not to use these guns under any condition against the people you are supposed to protect.

“Also, it put you under an oath of discipline. You are going to be deployed under soldiers. They will guide you, they will work with you, and you will learn from them. Above all, do your best to protect the Arewa Local Government Area from bandits, Lakurawa terrorists and other criminals.”

Earlier, the special adviser to the Kebbi State Governor on security matters, Col (retd) Danladi Hassan Riba, advised the officers of the Forest Guard to be law-abiding and ensure they free their LGA from terrorists.
