From Olanrewaju Lawal, Birnin Kebbi
Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has signed into law the N642.9 billion Appropriation Bill for the 2026 fiscal year.
He presented a proposed budget for the 2026 fiscal year before the House of Assembly on November 27, tagged: “Budget of transformations and people’s empowerment.’
The governor proposed N479.35,594.27 for capital expenditure and N163,573,314,116.82 for recurrent expenditure.
While signing the Bill passed by the lawmakers at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi, Idris thanked the speaker and the legislators for the swift passage of the budget. “I am the happiest person that this government truly belongs to the people of the state. Whatever we do, it is done in the best interest of the people. We are working harmoniously with the State House of Assembly to move the state forward and take it to greater heights, in line with our people‑oriented governance.”
He also said there was a need to increase the internally generated revenue (IGR), noting that federal allocations alone would not suffice.
“People should understand that the budget is not money already in hand. Rather, it is a projection of expected revenue, either from the IGR or the federal allocations,” he explained.
Speaker of the House, Muhammad‑Zuru, reaffirmed the legislature’s commitment to sustained cooperation with the executive, stressing that they would remain dedicated to working together to accelerate development for the benefit of the Kebbi citizens.
