Kebbi Gov rescues Ambursa accident victims, doles out N20m to victims

Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has donated the sum of N20 million to families of youths involved in a ghastly auto-crash at Ambursa, Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area on their way to football match.

Idris who made the donation during a condolence visit to the families of the deceased in Ambursa town,had earlier rescued the victims when on transit to the Airport.

It was learnt that the victims were on their way to Gulumbe village for a football match on Friday evening when the accident occurred.

Governor Idris who was going to the airport en-route Abuja, stopped all his vehicles and evacuated them to the hospital immediately.

While distributing the money at Ambursa,Idris, represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Abubakar Umar Dustimari gave out five families of the deceased N3 million each, three injured victims received N1 million each, while the unhurt survivors were given N2 million to share among themselves.

Idris, said the accident occurred minutes before he arrived at the scene while on his way to the airport.

According to him, “as the Chief Executive of the state, it would have been unfair to ignore the victims and continue my journey.

“I therefore, instructed my motorcade to evacuate the corpses, while the ambulance in my convoy conveyed the injured to the hospital.

“We are here on behalf of the Kebbi State Government to commiserate with you over this tragic incident.

“We pray to Almighty Allah to forgive their shortcomings and grant them Aljannatul Firdaus,” the governor prayed.

In his response, the District Head of Ambursar.Mr. Isa Haruna-Rashid, thanked the governor for the visit.

He said: the governor did what was expected of him by sending a powerful delegation of three commissioners and several Special Advisers to sympathise with us.

“We were moved that on reaching the scene, the governor stopped and personally helped to evacuate the corpses.

“We pray to Almighty Allah to reward him abundantly and grant him success in his political aspirations,” he said.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Birnin Kebbi local government, Hon. Nayaya Ambursa, said the people of Ambursa appreciated the governor’s concern.
