From Ola Muhammad, Birnin Kebbi
Kebbi State governor, Nasir Idris, has pledged to resettle all internally displaced persons (IDPs) affected by insecurity in Sakaba Local Government Area and the broader Zuru Emirate back to their ancestral homes.
He made the promise during a visit to commiserate with the Chief of Sakaba and local residents, following recent bandit attacks that displaced many people in the affected communities.
The governor reassured the people that his administration has been taking decisive measures to address security challenges.
“We are not here for politics. We are here to sympathise with you over the recent bandit attack.
“Sakaba is very dear to this administration. While no state in Nigeria is completely free of security challenges, the government is doing everything possible to protect its people,” Idris said.
He urged residents to seek divine intervention, foster peaceful coexistence, and refrain from political hostility, including the destruction of campaign posters.
Addressing political critics questioning his second-term prospects, Idris noted that previous governors served eight years each, asking why his tenure should be treated differently.
Also speaking, the Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Salihu Maikasuwa-Dangoje, thanked the governor for supporting his election.
He, however, expressed concerns over renewed security breaches ahead of the general elections scheduled to hold in January and February 2027.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Home Affairs and Internal Security, Haliru Wasagu, reaffirmed the governor’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Kebbi.
