Senator Sunday Marshall Katung (Kaduna South) has officially declared his intention to seek re-election to the Senate while also pledging support for President Bola Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani’s re-election bids in the 2027 general elections.

The senator made the declaration during a meeting with the local government chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from his senatorial district, held in Abuja.

Also, former Senator Danjuma La’ah, who represented Kaduna South in the Senate between 2015 and 2023, is seeking a return to the National Assembly, citing persistent calls from constituents urging him to re-contest.

However, Senator Katung said his decision to seek re-election is anchored on the need to consolidate the gains recorded, complete ongoing initiatives, and continue delivering quality representation to the people of Southern Kaduna.

He noted that the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the SUSTAIN agenda of Governor Uba Sani require experienced and committed lawmakers to drive them to the grassroots.

He charged party stakeholders to mobilise aggressively ahead of 2027, stressing that Southern Kaduna must remain firmly aligned with the APC to protect developmental strides already secured.

He assured the party officials of his unwavering commitment to unity, development, and inclusive governance across the eight LGAs of the senatorial district.

Meanwhile, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Michael Auta, has stepped down for the former Senator Danjuma La’ah for a return to the Senate.

Auta was the Labour Party (LP) senatorial candidate for the Kaduna South Senatorial District in the 2023 general elections, before his recent defection to the APC.

He had earlier nursed a senatorial ambition but announced his decision to step down in support of La’ah during a meeting with party stakeholders and support groups, such as the Ward-2-Ward Frontiers, in Kafanchan, the headquarters of Southern Kaduna.

Speaking at the meeting, Auta said his decision to step down was informed by the need to consolidate the gains recorded during La’ah’s previous tenure in office.

He commended the former senator for attracting federal projects to the district and expressed confidence in his ability to further advance development in the area.

He also cautioned the electorate against trading their votes for short-term benefits, urging them instead to support leaders capable of delivering sustainable progress.

He, however, said that should his preferred candidate, La’ah, no longer be interested, he would enter the race fully, noting that no amount of inducement would suppress his voice from advocating for the betterment of the region.

Addressing supporters, La’ah said his aspiration was driven by a desire to provide experienced and selfless leadership capable of addressing the challenges confronting Southern Kaduna.

He emphasised that unity among the people remains critical to achieving meaningful development in the zone, noting that his previous tenure had equipped him with the capacity and experience required for effective representation.

According to him, leadership should be anchored on commitment, competence, and a proven track record of service.

He urged the electorate to allow past performance to guide their choices in the coming elections.
