The Senate of Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA), Katsina State, has approved the rustication of 20 students found guilty of committing various forms of examination misconduct.
A statement by the FUDMA Director of Information and Protocol, Nasiru Abdul, explained that the Senate based its decision on the recent report of the Students’ Disciplinary Committee.
According to the statement, Chairman of the Senate and Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mohammed Khalid Othman, said the decision is in accordance with Section 13.3, subsection 13.3c of the University’s Policy on Examination Irregularity and Academic Misconducts.
Prof. Othman commended members of the Committee for commitment to FUDMA’s examination misconduct policies and for ensuring the adherence to due process, fairness, firmness and justice.
He said the Senate’s decision is to send clear signals to all students to brace up to do the needful and also serve as deterrence to all those who want to cut corners through the lack of adherence to FUDMA’s rules and regulations governing examination conduct”.
All the affected students were given an opportunity to appear before the Committee, to defend themselves.
The authorities also directed the enforcement of the university’s academic policy which enshrines that students must satisfy the 75 percent lectures’ attendance to qualify to sit for examinations in the university,” the statement said.
