The Katsina State Police Command has urged residents of Funtua, Funtua Local Government Area of Katsina State to ignore an audio recording making the rounds on social media purporting the presence of occult members in Funtua and Bakori Local Government Areas.
“The Command wishes to categorically debunk these allegations and provide reassurance to the public,” the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Aliyu Sadiq, said in a statement on Wednesday.
According to the statement, “the report in question asserts the existence of occult groups operating within the aforementioned Local Government Areas, engaging in activities that pose a threat to the safety and security of the communities.
“However, after conducting an extensive investigation in regards to the claims in the audio recording, these claims, disseminated in the audio recording and causing widespread concern and panic in the communities, were found to be untrue.
“The Katsina State Police Command calls on the good people of the state to kindly disregard the audio and its content in its entirety as the information presented therein lacks credible evidence and factual grounding.
“It is crucial to prioritise accurate information dissemination and promote unity within our community.
“Misinformation and unfounded allegations can harm reputations and perpetuate an atmosphere of fear and unrest.
The Commissioner of Police further encourages members of the public to exercise caution and seek credible sources before propagating unverified claims.
“It is essential that we all come together to combat misinformation and ensure the dissemination of accurate information that fosters harmony and unity.
“The Command remains committed to ensuring a safer and more secure Katsina State.”
