In a moment that rekindled memories of Nigeria’s glory days in sprinting, Dr. Kolawole Oredipe, a respected Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) board member and auditor, has praised Ajayi Kanyisola’s remarkable performance at the Tokyo World Athletics Championships.

Ajayi, who blazed through the heats in a sensational 9.88s and followed up with 9.93s in the semifinals, clocked 10.00s in the men’s 100m final, becoming the first Nigerian sprinter in 18 years to reach the final since Olusoji Fasuba’s feat.

Dr. Oredipe described the achievement as “history in the making,” highlighting its significance for Nigeria’s athletics revival:

“History has been made. Qualifying for the final alone is huge, Ajayi get mouth! Recall how many years of appearances it took Falilat Ogunkoya, Mary Onyali, Fatima Yusuf, Late Sunday Bada, and even our pride Tobi Amusan to be knocking before they finally won at the big stage. Jamaican Seville has been around, but today he made it. I’m happy that Nigeria is building a new generation of youngsters. Let’s support them, Ogazi is still young, Ajayi, Okon, Nathaniel, Udodi, Nigeria will rule the world again soon.”

Ajayi’s breakthrough echoes Nigeria’s rich sprinting legacy, signaling a promising new chapter for the nation’s track stars. His performance not only positions him among the world’s elite but also inspires a fresh generation of Nigerian athletes to dream big on the global stage.
