The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won the by-elections for Ungogo and Kano Municipal seats in the Kano State House of Assembly.

In Kano Municipal, APC candidate Aliyu Nabil Daneji polled 7,484 votes, while in Ungogo, APC’s Aminu Sa’ad garnered 8,975 votes. Both were declared winners by their respective Returning Officers, Prof. Ibrahim Tajo Siraj and Prof. Ali Tijjani Abdullahi.

Major opposition parties, including the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and African Democratic Congress (ADC), did not contest. Voter turnout was low in several polling units.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner for Kano State, Ambassador Abdu Zango, attributed the poor turnout to the timing of the election, coinciding with Ramadan, and the limited number of parties involved. He described the elections as generally peaceful despite low participation.

Both seats became vacant following the sudden deaths of the previous lawmakers. The winners are sons of the late representatives, continuing their families’ political legacy.
