Kano Peace Committee (KPC) has expressed displeasure over the recent confrontation between the All Progressives Congress and the New Nigeria Peoples Party in the state, saying the posture of the two parties represents a threat to peace and public safety in the state.

The Committee, which is an affiliate of the National Peace Committee is co – chaired by Emeritus Prof. Ibrahim H. Umar and the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Most. Rev. Bishop Dr. John Namaza Niyiring.

A statement issued by Ibrahim A. Waiya for the Committee described as unfortunate the utterances of the party leadership of both parties, cautioning that these utterances were quite dangerous to peace and the security of lives and property in the state

The Committee held that the utterances of these party officials were “Unfortunate, uncalled for and in total contravention to the efforts so far invested on the campaigns for the promotion of peace and security in the State and Electoral laws 2022, as amended”

“We wish to unequivocally condemn the development as unacceptable and unpardonable, and call in strong terms for the leadership of the two parties (NNPP and APC), to respect the rules of the game in the interest of public safety, security and wellbeing of Kano citizens.

The Committee urged the state Governor to ensure that all political parties are accorded with the enabling environment to conduct their party activities within the confines of the Nigerian extant laws, without any hindrance or intimidation by any other party.

They also urged the Commissioner of Police, CP Abubakar Lawal, to investigate the alleged attacks on some households in Gwale Local Government areas in the state with a view to bringing the perpetrators and their sponsors to book.
