The Kano State House of Assembly has approved the nomination of Murtala Garo as Deputy Governor following the adoption of the report of its ad hoc screening committee.
The 12-member committee, chaired by Deputy Speaker Bello Butubutua, presented its findings during plenary presided over by Speaker Jibril Falgore, confirming that Garo was duly screened and found qualified for the position of Kano deputy governor.
According to the committee, the nominee’s academic credentials, professional experience and personal background were thoroughly examined in line with legislative procedures.
Governor Abba Yusuf had forwarded Garo’s name to the Assembly on April 22 for screening and confirmation, citing Section 191(3) of the 1999 Constitution, which empowers a governor to appoint a deputy in the event of a vacancy.
Garo’s confirmation follows the resignation of former Deputy Governor Aminu Gwarzo in March 2026, creating the vacancy now filled by the new appointee.
