Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Wednesday made a final payment of N8.234 billion in severance gratuity, including outstanding accommodation and leave allowances, to a total of 1,371 ex-councillors who served at the council level between 2021 and 2024.
In his remarks at the occasion held at Government House, Yusuf disclosed that the payment brings the total amount paid to the former councillors in the state to over ₦15 billion.
According to the governor, the payment was a demonstration of his commitment to social justice, fairness, and the welfare of citizens, regardless of political affiliations.

He described the payment as a way of honouring public servants in the state, adding that it would serve as a morale booster to those currently serving in various capacities across the state.
He expressed gratitude to God for granting him the privilege to fulfil his promise and thanked the former councillors for their contributions to grassroots governance during their tenure.
The Chairperson of ALGON in the state, Saadatu Yusha’u, described the payment as a sign of commitment by the administration to the wellbeing of workers at the grassroots.
