Kano Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday, July 25, 2025 secured the conviction and sentence of two fake investigators purporting to be their staff
The convict, Buhari Abdullahi and Umar Mukhtar Usman were sentenced by Justice Nasiru Saminu of the Kano State High Court.
The duo were arraigned on a one-count charge for falsely parading themselves as investigators of the EFCC.
The charge specifically stated that they used a forged EFCC Identity card to impersonate their staff, an offence that is contrary to and punishable under Section 132 of the Penal Code Law.
The charge reads ‘’That you Buhari Abdullahi and Umar Mukhtar Usman sometime in May 2025 at Kano within the jurisdiction of this honourable court falsely impersonated to be investigators of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) where you used false identity card and paraded yourselves as staff of EFCC and you thereby committed an offense contrary to and punishable under Section 132 of the Penal Code law.”
Upon arraignment, the defendants pleaded guilty to the charge.
Consequently, Justice Saminu convicted Abdullahi and Usman based sentenced them to six(6) months imprisonment with an option of a fine of Fifty Thousand Naira (N50,000.00) each.
