The Catholic Diocese of Kano has publicly distanced itself from Peter Umeanuka, an ex-major seminarian and founder of Divine Solution Ministry in the state.
In a letter signed by the Diocesan Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Abraham Amen, on the authority of the Bishop of Kano, Most Rev. Dr John Namaza Niyiring, the Diocese condemned what it called false representation of Catholic faith and practice.
“The Catholic Church in Kano condemns every false representation of its faith, doctrine and decorum by this ministry, and distances itself from anything it represents,” the letter stated.
The disclaimer was read in all Catholic churches in the Diocese on Sunday. It directed all Catholics within and outside the Diocese to immediately disassociate themselves from Umeanuka and the activities of his ministry.

The Church also warned that it would not be held liable for any physical, financial, psychological or spiritual harm that any Catholic may suffer through association with the said ministry.
According to the Diocese, Umeanuka is impersonating an ordained deacon of the Catholic Church, a status he does not hold. The statement explained that while serving as a major seminarian at Good Counsel Catholic Church, Kano, he experienced a psychological health challenge.
“Efforts were made by the Diocese to restore his psychological faculty, involving experts from different parts of the country. When these efforts proved unsuccessful, the Diocese requested that he discontinue serving in that capacity,” the letter added.
Despite this, the Diocese said the ex-seminarian went on to establish his own ministry, where he presents himself as an ordained Catholic deacon, wears clerical regalia, and blesses people with the monstrance.
