The Forty -four Local Government Areas of Kano State have dragged the state government before a Federal High Court in Abuja over moves by the state government to use their allocations to jointly finance a N27 billion interchange projects in the state capital.

Listed also as defendants in the suit that is currently before Justice Donatus Okorowo are the Kano State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice as well as the Accountant General of Kano State.

The plaintiffs, which included the Kano State chapter of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) had on December 27th had asked the court to restrain the state government from tampering with allocations meant for them.

Specifically, they asked the court to restrain the defendants, whether by themselves, their officers, servants, agents, privies, cronies or representatives from controlling, managing, further administering, disbursing and spending their funds and allocations in the Kano State Joint Local Account, pending the determination of their case.

Ruling on the motion, however, the court ordered the state government to appear before it to show cause why the restraining order should not be granted.

The court also ordered that the processes be served on the defendants by substituted means. It adjourned the case to January 3rd., 2024 when both parties are expected to appear before it .
