Former Super Eagles midfielder Sani Kaita has formally applied for the vacant head coach position of Nigeria’s U-17 men’s national team, the Golden Eaglets, expressing confidence in his capacity to build what he described as a “virile and winning team.”
The Nigeria Football Federation recently announced vacancies across several youth national team positions, inviting applications from qualified coaches as part of a restructuring process.
Kaita, 38, believes his playing pedigree and coaching development place him in strong contention for the role. The former international, who featured for Nigeria at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, enjoyed a career that spanned Europe, including spells with Sparta Rotterdam and AS Monaco, as well as clubs in Russia and Greece.
A silver medallist at the 2005 FIFA U-20 World Cup and the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Kaita said he has deliberately prepared for a career in youth coaching since retiring from professional football.
“I can confirm that I have applied for the U-17 coaching job,” Kaita stated. “It is time for me to share my expertise and develop our youth players within a positive, high-performance environment.”
Now based in the United Kingdom, Kaita holds a UEFA B License issued by the Football Association of Wales. He is currently attached to Hellenic FC, where he has been working within the youth development system.
The former midfielder noted that his transition into coaching has been intentional and development-focused.
“I have spent the last few years working specifically with young players, focusing on player development and success,” he said. “I am confident in my ability and promise to assemble a team that Nigerians will be proud of.”
The NFF is expected to conclude its review process in the coming weeks as preparations continue for upcoming youth competitions.
There you go. Clean structure, proper angle, no sentimental fluff. If Nigerian football decides to surprise us with actual long-term planning for once, this might even be interesting.
