Nigeria has taken a bold step into the future of education with the launch of the TETFund Blackboard Learning Management System (LMS), starting at the Kaduna State College of Education, Gidan Waya.

The rollout positions the institution as the pioneer in what is being hailed as the world’s largest single integration of Blackboard in higher education.

The unveiling, which took place at the College’s Kafanchan campus, marks the beginning of a nationwide digital migration across all public tertiary institutions, with the Federal Government mandating full adoption of the platform before the end of 2025.

“This is not just about adopting technology, it is about transforming education for an entire generation. Today, the classroom is no longer a room. It is wherever you are, whenever you are ready to learn. It is in your hands, on the screen, and in your heart”, said Nicolas Alboouze, Vice President, Middle East Africa, Anthology, the company behind Blackboard Backed by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) under the leadership of Executive Secretary Arch. Sonny Echono, the initiative aligns with the education policy direction of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, aiming to standardise teaching and learning in line with global best practices.

Implementation is being led by Pole Global Marketing (PGM), Anthology’s Nigerian partner. Its Country Director, Michael Adedeji Ladipo, described the Kaduna rollout as a significant step toward advancing digital teaching and learning in Nigerian institutions and one that aligns with the Education Minister’s vision of inclusive, technology-driven education.

At the pilot launch within the School of Secondary Education , Vocational and Technical Education, lecturers and students participated in training and live demonstrations. Blackboard’s features including course delivery, online assignments, grading tools, discussion boards, and real-time collaboration were showcased, giving a glimpse into how Nigeria’s classrooms will evolve.

Engr. Simon Gajere Nyalla, Acting Director of ICT at the College, pledged seamless implementation, while Deputy Provost Dr. Jummai Grace Tabat, speaking for the Provost, hailed the project as a defining moment for the institution. “We are honoured to be chosen as a pioneer. This initiative will transform our teaching methodologies, enhance student engagement, and equip our graduates for a digital-driven future,” she said.

The Federal Government has directed that all students in public tertiary institutions complete Blackboard orientation before the September academic session begins. With this rollout, Nigeria is not only positioning itself as Africa’s leader in EdTech adoption but also setting a global record as the largest market to integrate Blackboard at scale.

For millions of students nationwide, the Kaduna pilot signals the dawn of a sweeping digital education revolution that could redefine how the next generation of Nigerians learn, collaborate, and compete in the global knowledge economy.
