Several persons and livestock have been reportedly killed in the early hours accident in a community at Makarfi local government area of Kaduna State along the Kano-Abuja highway.
It is a common practice to see scores of people sitting atop trucks conveying animals such as cows, rams, goats, and donkeys among others from one part of the country to another.
This practice, usually blamed on the cost of transportation, has over the years, led to the loss of several lives, wealth, and destruction of road infrastructure in the country.
Credible sources in the Kaduna State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the unfortunate incident to The Sun Newspapers via telephone calls.
One of the sources however craved more time to respond adequately as the men of the corps were still taking the inventory of the affected vehicle and its content at the time a call was put across to his mobile line.
Meanwhile, unofficial sources claimed that about 20 persons already died while many others must have sustained varying degrees of life-threatening injuries as a result of the incident.
The causal agent is unknown at the time of filing this report.
