The 8th Senate member, Senator Shehu Sani has pledged to provide courageous and effective representation for the people of Kaduna Central following his emergence in the APC senatorial contest, declaring that Kaduna deserves leaders who can “speak with confidence and courage.”

Addressing supporters, party leaders, and journalists at his Kaduna residence, Sani expressed gratitude to the leadership and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state for their support and solidarity throughout the contest.

“Kaduna State occupies a very important and strategic place in the history and politics of Northern Nigeria,” he said. “It was, and still remains, the political capital of Northern Nigeria. It deserves representation by people who can speak with confidence, stand with courage, and make the people proud whenever their services are needed.”

The former lawmaker, who represented Kaduna Central in the Senate eight years ago, said his return to the National Assembly would focus on defending the interests of the people and ensuring that the state receives adequate federal attention.

“My main objective in representing my people is to ensure that the interests, dreams, desires, and expectations of my people are properly presented in parliament,” he said.

Sani also praised Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani for promoting unity and inclusive governance across the state.

“Today, we have a governor who has transformed the art of governance in Kaduna State,” he said. “He has built bridges between the predominantly Muslim northern part of the state and the predominantly Christian southern part. Since assuming office, he has worked to heal divisions and promote unity.”

According to him, his presence in the Senate would complement the developmental efforts of the state government by attracting greater federal support to Kaduna.

“My presence in the Senate is to ensure that Kaduna State gets the necessary federal attention to support what is being done in the state,” he stated.

The former senator described the National Assembly as “the backbone of democracy,” stressing that lawmakers have a responsibility to defend the principle of separation of powers, provide oversight, and ensure that democratic dividends reach the people.

“You are there to ensure that the dividends of democracy are delivered to your people,” he said. “These include infrastructure such as roads, hospitals, schools, and policies that protect and defend the interests of the people.”

Sani also called for political tolerance and reconciliation following the contest, urging aggrieved members of the party to embrace unity.

“You can win today and lose tomorrow, or lose today and win tomorrow,” he said. “When you seek political office and do not succeed, you should not destroy the system because of one election.”

While condemning reported attacks on some of his supporters, he appealed for calm and peaceful coexistence within the party.

“Our hands remain open for them to embrace unity, peaceful coexistence, and the good governance Governor Uba Sani has continued to provide,” he added.

Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Sani urged Nigerians to reject ethnic and religious divisions and instead focus on tackling insecurity, poverty, and underdevelopment.

“We should resist those trying to use ethnic and religious sentiments to divide us,” he said. “Nigeria exists because we all agreed to stay together.”

He thanked the APC leadership, party stakeholders, commissioners, security agencies, and supporters across Kaduna Central for what he described as their unwavering support throughout the process.
