The Kaduna Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured the conviction of TikToker Muhammad Kabir, known as @youngcee0066, for abusing and mutilating the Naira.
The sentencing was delivered by Justice RM Aikawa of the Federal High Court in Kaduna.
Kabir was arrested on Tuesday, May 13, in Tudun Wada, Kaduna State, after posting a video on TikTok and Instagram showing him spraying Naira notes on the floor, stepping on them, and daring the EFCC in Hausa to arrest him. The act violated Section 21(3) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act, 2007, which prohibits Naira abuse and mutilation.
The amended charge stated: “That you, Muhammad Kabir Sa’ad (a.k.a youngcee0066)(M), sometime in 2025 in Kaduna, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, did unlawfully mutilate Naira by stepping on the Naira banknotes while making a social media video and posting same on the internet and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 21(3) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007, punishable under Section 21(1) of the same Act.”
Kabir pleaded guilty, prompting prosecution counsel M.U. Gadaka to request a conviction. Justice Aikawa sentenced him to six months’ imprisonment or a fine of ₦300,000 to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
