Kaduna State Commissioner of Information, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, on Sunday, August 17, 2025, declared that Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency is no longer an opposition enclave but a consolidated stronghold of the All Progressives Congress (APC), positioning the party strongly ahead of the 2027 elections.

He hailed the APC’s victory in the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency by-election as evidence of Governor Uba Sani’s inclusive and people-centred governance.

Speaking with journalists after the announcement of results for Chikun/Kajuru, as well as Zaria Kewaye and Basawa State Assembly constituencies, Maiyaki described the outcome as “historic and symbolic”, breaking a long-standing jinx in a constituency that had consistently resisted the APC’s advances.

According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the APC candidate, Felix Bagudu, polled 34,580 votes in Chikun/Kajuru to defeat Esther Ashivelli Dawaki of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 11,491 votes, a margin of 23,089 votes. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) secured 3,477 votes, while the Social Democratic Party (SDP) trailed with 142 votes.

Maiyaki attributed the landslide victory to Governor Sani’s grassroots-focused leadership, citing investments in road infrastructure, healthcare renewal, education reforms, and security interventions—policies he said resonated strongly with voters.

“The people of Chikun and Kajuru, as well as Zaria Kewaye and Basawa, have spoken loud and clear. They want progressive leadership, not recycled promises. They trust Governor Uba Sani’s leadership style of inclusivity,” Maiyaki stated.

He stressed that “with this breakthrough, the APC has consolidated its dominance across Kaduna, extending into territories once considered opposition strongholds.

“With this victory, the APC has not only broken new ground but also cemented its status as the dominant political force in Kaduna State,” Maiyaki added.
