The wife of Kebbi State Governor, Hajiya Zainab Nasare Nasiru Idris, has taken over the responsibility of paying for hospital registration of 200 indigent children and orphans, including disabled, under the Kebbi Contributory Health Management Agency (KECHEMA) scheme.
Hajiya Zainab,made this known in Birnin Kebbi, at the distribution of rice and cash to disabled children and orphans, Organised by KECHEMA.
The Press Secretary to the Governor’s Wife, Hajiya Khadijat Saidu, confirmed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi.
She said: “In addition, the wife of the governor, will provide monthly allowance of N200,000 for almajiri feeding programme under the Almajiri Support Initiative of Nigeria. Furthermore, Hajiya Zainab Nasir Idris provided financial assistance of N300,000 to an indigent girl in support of her wedding in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area.”
She added that the governor’s wife also gave out 10 kg bag of rice and N10,000 to each beneficiary at the ceremony.
“The wife of the governor urged wealthy individuals throughout Kebbi State to institute charity programmes to assist disabled children and orphans as well as cater for their health services and education.
“She commended KECHEMA for managing the contributory health scheme under which those registered as participants enjoy almost free medical services while pregnant women bear absolute no cost.
“The wife of the Governor’s admonished the public to treat disabled persons as normal human beings within the main stream society without stigmatisation.”
She added that, Hajiya Idris vowed to continue to support the administration of her husband to improve the welfare of the people of the society.
Earlier, the Chairman, Committee on Health, Kebbi State House of Assembly, Hon. Aminu Abubakar Babangida Gulumbe, was quoted to have commended governor Nasir Idris for the sizeable budgetary allocation to the health sector in the 2024 fiscal year.
“Hon Gulumbe announced a personal donation of N1 million naira for the care of orphans while the Chairman, Board of Internal Revenue, provided five sewing machines for the training of 50 orphans on skill acquisition.”
Other speakers at the event according to the statement,were, the Executive Secretary of KECHEMA, Dr Ja’afar Augie, who explained the concept and functions of the Agency, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs, Hajiya Aisha Maikurata who informed the gathering that she has enrolled 20 orphans into KECHEMA programme.
The Coordinator of Orphans’ Matters, Alhaji Bashar Jabbo, Hajiya Hadiza Yahaya Shantali, the state Coordinator of Sickle Cell Association and the Head of the Almajiri Initiative, Shehu Umar, thanked the wife of the governor for her various support to their associations.
