The Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) has unveiled a 14-player Junior Female YellowGreens squad for the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Division 1 Qualifier, scheduled for Tanzania from August 30 to September 5, 2026. The young Nigerians will be aiming to secure another place on the global stage after the country’s historic qualification for the inaugural ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup in 2025.
The squad emerged from an intensive selection process involving several zonal camp phases before the players converged in Benin for further assessment, training and competitive evaluation. The technical team scrutinised individual performances, tested team combinations and assessed the players’ readiness for the demands of international T20 cricket before settling on the final 14.
Christabel Chukwuonye will captain the side, with Shola Adenkule named as her deputy. They will be expected to provide leadership and composure as Nigeria confronts a competitive field featuring Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Malawi. The tournament will offer little room for complacency, with every match carrying significant implications for Nigeria’s qualification hopes.

Also selected are Omosigho Eguakun, Peace Usen, Anointed Akhigbe, Deborah Bassey, Jessica Bieni, Inyene Ubong, Beauty Oguai, Favour Effiong, Chisom Okpe, Jennifer Godwin, Praise Onaghise and Glory Idiahi. The squad represents the growing depth in Nigeria’s female cricket pathway and the NCF’s continued effort to identify and nurture players capable of progressing into the senior national team.
With the squad now confirmed, the Junior Female YellowGreens will continue their final preparations in Lagos before departing for Tanzania. The remaining days of camp will focus on team combinations, tactical awareness, match readiness and the mental resilience required to compete effectively against some of Africa’s leading emerging cricket nations.
For the young Nigerians, the Tanzania assignment is more than another continental tournament. It is an opportunity to represent the country, build on the achievements of the previous generation and take another important step towards the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup. With the qualification pathway ahead, the Junior Female YellowGreens will be determined to write their own chapter in Nigeria’s rising women’s cricket story.
