JCI unites Ogun, Oyo communities through sports

Members of Junior Chambers International have used sports as a platform to bridge and connect communities in Lagos and Ogun states, and in the process unite, heal and inspire.

The journey began at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Oyo State and culminated at the Ijeja Stadium in Ogun State.

The remarkable sporting event was used to honour the Executive Vice President of JCI Nigeria, Ambassador Idara Michael, who took the first kick of theAll Ogun Games.

With authority, grace, and a deep understanding of sports as a tool for development, Idara set the tone for a weekend that celebrated not just athleticism, but community, camaraderie, and collective well-being.

“Sports is more than competition; it is connection,” Ambassador Idara declared as she signalled the kick-off. “When we come together on the field, we are not just playing games. We are building bridges, breaking barriers, and reminding ourselves that our shared humanity is stronger than any difference. Today, we celebrate health, fitness, and the bonds that unite us across states, across communities, and across hearts.”

The weekend was a tapestry of vibrant activities. From the electrifying atmosphere of the stadiums to the laughter of participants engaged in games and fitness challenges, the event was a testament to the power of intentional community engagement. Athletes and spectators alike revelled in the spirit of friendly competition, while health and fitness activities reminded everyone of the importance of holistic well-being.

The journey from Oyo to Ogun was symbolic. It was a physical movement that mirrored the emotional and communal bridges being built. The echoes of cheers, the smiles of participants, and the connections forged lingered long after the final whistle.

Idara Michael’s presence at the kick-off was a reminder that leadership is about showing up, about setting the pace, and about inspiring others to see the potential in themselves and their communities.

“Today, we kicked off more than games. We kicked off a spirit of unity, a commitment to health, and a belief that together, we can achieve extraordinary things,” Idara stated. “This is what it means to lead: to stand at the starting line and encourage others to run their race with courage, determination, and joy.”
