Senator representing Imo West senatorial constituency at the National Assembly, Osita Izunaso at the weekend presented cassava grinding machines to one hundred and ten participants who benefited from his two days agricultural training workshop in Owerri.
Besides empowering his constituency with the machines, he also gave them cash rewards of a hundred thousand naira each to assist them in their new choice of business.
Earlier before the presentations, Izunaso launched a 200 scholarship scheme for students in the tertiary institutions from his constituency.
Addressing newsmen shortly after the presentations, the ranking senator said the gesture was in fulfilment of part of his campaign promises to give back to his people after one year in office.
He said “When we embarked on our campaign, we promised our people we’re going to focus on agriculture and education in making of Orlu State so this is one of the major item we’re given out in the agricultural sector .
“Reason for this is that it’s important to have our people doing something so that they would stop complaining. We’re teaching them today on different technics in cassava production and processing ,you can see we have handed over to them a cassava grinding machine and cash token of a hundred thousand naira each and we’ve asked them to put themselves in cooperatives .
“By the time they put themselves in cooperatives in different sectors of what they’ve learnt then we would be able to also assist them financially to enable them get started. So this a programme that is ongoing, we’re going to do it again next year ,we would monitor what they’ve done this year and we would do another one next year .
“if they didn’t do well they will not participate in the programme next year but if they do, they will be invited again. We’re doing this to mark our one year in administration as their senator.
“We have lots of programs lined up, this is just one of them, we’ve just established 200 scholarships for students in tertiary institutions, we just launched it we’re going to formalise it. ” Izunaso promised
