The Ijaw Youth Congress (IYC), has officially inaugurated the executive members of its central zone, urging them to avoid engaging in partisan politics.
Among those inaugurated was Francis Boro, a descendant of Isaac Boro, who was inaugurated as the Information Officer of IYC Central Zone.
The President of IYC worldwide, Dr. Doubra Okotete, and several other Ijaw leaders who have led the IYC witnessed the inauguration held at Ijaw House, Yenagoa.
Okotete urged members of the executive council to focus on the Ijaw struggle, as exemplified by the late Isaac Adaka Boro. While emphasising the importance of steering clear of divisive politics that could harm the council and the Ijaw nation, he stressed the need to keep political issues separate from the leadership’s responsibilities.
“Please, take a cue and ensure you don’t take to politics that would set the council apart. The leadership under my watch is very much interested in ensuring the issues of politics are kept far from the leadership business,” he said.
The newly appointed Chairman of the Central Zone executive, Dr. Enebraye Orusengha, pledged to serve with dedication, purpose, and integrity, promising to safeguard the interests of all Ijaw people.
He highlighted the pressing need to advocate for the creation of additional local government areas in the state, citing the inadequacy of the current eight local governments.
According to him, the Central Zone leadership intends to collaborate with stakeholders, including the Supreme Egbesu Council, to address the issue of the existing local government structure.
Orusengha said the council aims to establish a committee to review relevant laws and advocate for the establishment of more local government areas in Bayelsa State.
Furthermore, the Central Zone leadership emphasised the importance of unity among Ijaws, urging a spirit of brotherhood and cooperation.
