The Iya Aladura General and founder of The New Seraph, Dr. Oluwaseye Yomi-Sholoye, has been honoured with an award at the Cherubim and Seraphim (C&S) Centenary Celebration Award and Gala Nite for her outstanding contribution to the growth and stability of the church globally, as well as her philanthropic initiatives.
The event, held at Oriental Hotels, Victoria Island, Lagos, brought together political dignitaries, clerics, and faithful to celebrate 100 years of the C&S Church and recognise individuals who have made significant impacts in its growth.
Speaking after receiving her award, Dr. Yomi-Sholoye urged the church to intensify its investment in youth empowerment and unity, stressing that young people are the future of both the church and Nigeria.
“The youths are very important to us. The youths are the future of our church and the future of Nigeria,” she said. “I would only encourage our youths to be steadfast in the way of the Lord and in their various sectors where they belong so that they can excel. With our students, they should focus more on their education. The church must invest more in them and their unity activities.”
She also reflected on the church’s evolution, noting that while it was once associated largely with miracles, the C&S has now become deeply rooted in evangelism and the teaching of the Word of God.
“In this current dispensation, the C&S is big time into the Word of God. Today, we are very thorough and detailed in evangelism, while also adding value to our youths more than ever before,” she added.
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Tayo Ayinde, congratulated the church for its century-long journey, describing it as a vital ally in nation-building.
“It is a privilege for me to be here with you tonight as you mark a remarkable milestone, a hundred years of faith, service, and the impact of the Eternal Sacred Order of Cherubim and Seraph,” Sanwo-Olu said.
He commended the church’s social impact through its support for orphanages, borehole water projects, health missions to underserved communities, and youth empowerment programmes.
According to him, these initiatives resonate deeply with government goals of promoting welfare and inclusive development.
Chairman of the Centenary Anniversary Steering Committee, Dr. Harold Olusegun Demuren, in his welcome address, described the C&S as a testimony of God’s grace, unity of purpose, and principled leadership.
“Since its founding in 1925, the church has continued to expand globally while staying true to its mission of spiritual growth, moral discipline, and social impact,” he said.
Demuren added that the C&S has gained worldwide recognition through its membership in the Organisation of African Indigenous Churches (OAIC) and the World Council of Churches.
He also paid tribute to past leaders whose sacrifices laid the foundation for the church’s expansion.
The centenary gala not only celebrated the church’s legacy but also reaffirmed its role as a cornerstone of indigenous Christianity and social development in Nigeria, tracing its roots to the vision of its founder, St. Moses Orimolade Tunolase, the first indigenous African prophet.
