In a demonstration of corporate social responsibility, Lafarge Africa Plc, in partnership with Leadway Health, offered free breast health screenings to women at the Primary Health Care Centre, Akerele, Surulere, Lagos, in celebration of International Women’s Day 2026.
The initiative provided women with professional health checks, expert guidance, and vital education on early detection, underlining the life-saving importance of regular breast screenings.
Participants were also encouraged to adopt proactive health practices and share awareness within their communities at the programme with the theme: theme, ‘The Give to Gain Blueprint: Investing in Women for Sustainable Impact.’
“At Lafarge Africa, empowering women goes beyond creating opportunities; it also involves safeguarding their health. By bringing essential healthcare services closer to the community, we remove barriers that often prevent women from seeking timely medical attention,” the company said.

Gabriel Pollyn, Head of Sustainability and Sponsorship at Lafarge Africa, listed the initiative bridging gaps in healthcare access and empowering women to take ownership of their health.
He noted that breast cancer, while prevalent, is highly treatable when detected early.
Dr. Olukemi Albert-Udoh, Occupational Health Coordinator at Lafarge Africa, explained the screening process and urged participants to disseminate knowledge to family and friends to amplify awareness.
Dr. Atere Abisola, Team Lead at Leadway Health, provided practical insights on the importance of early detection and what screenings entail.
Adetoro Baiyewu, Health Supervisor for Surulere Local Government Area, commended Lafarge Africa for bringing essential healthcare services to the grassroots.
She added that the exercise would ensure that women access life-saving information and early detection opportunities.
