First Lady of Nigeria Oluremi Tinubu has warned that attacks on schools, teachers, and students pose a direct threat to the future of the nation, urging stakeholders to intensify efforts to protect children’s right to learn in safety.
The First Lady made the call in a message to mark the 2026 International Day to Protect Education from Attack, observed on September 9, with the theme, “Education Can Survive Attack.”
She said every child should have access to education in an environment free from fear, violence, and insecurity, stressing that protecting schools was synonymous with protecting the future of the country.
“As an educationist, I know that a classroom is where potential is discovered, dreams take root, and hope is nurtured,” she said.
According to her, an attack on any school, teacher, or student goes beyond the immediate destruction or disruption it causes, as it threatens the aspirations of children and the development of entire communities.
“Every attack on a school, teacher, or student threatens the future of our children and communities,” Tinubu said.

She therefore called for collective action to secure educational institutions and create safe learning environments for Nigerian children.
“Let us unite in protecting our schools, supporting our teachers, and safeguarding every child’s right to education,” she urged.
The First Lady emphasised that education remained fundamental to building a hopeful and secure future, saying the protection of learning spaces was a responsibility that must be shared by government, communities, parents, educators, and other stakeholders.
“When we protect education, we preserve hope and secure our collective future,” she said.
She congratulated Nigerians on the occasion of the International Day to Protect Education from Attack, reiterating the importance of ensuring that violence does not deprive children of the opportunity to learn, develop their potential, and contribute meaningfully to society.
