• Says PDP chieftain’s death ‘fall of biggest trees in Edo political forest’

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has described the death of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Vice Chairman for the South-South, Daniel Orbih, as a devastating personal loss, saying he has lost “a friend and a committed political ally.”
Wike said the death of the influential PDP chieftain represented the “fall of one of the biggest trees in the political forest of Edo State,” declaring that Orbih would be sorely missed by friends, political associates and admirers.
Chief Orbih died on Monday, August 31, 2026.
Reacting to the death in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the FCT Minister described the late politician as “a friend indeed” and a man who embodied everything desirable in friendship and political partnership.
“I have lost a friend and a committed political ally. Dan Osi Orbih was everything anyone could desire in friendship and political associate,” Wike said.
“But we can’t question God. He gives and He takes.”
The FCT Minister said the death of Orbih was not only a painful loss to his family and political associates but also a major blow to the political landscape of Edo State.
Describing the late PDP leader as one of the towering figures in Edo politics, Wike said his departure had created a vacuum that would be difficult to fill.
“His death is the fall of one of the biggest trees in the political forest of Edo State,” the Minister said, adding that the deceased would be missed by all who knew and worked with him.
Wike, on behalf of himself, his family and political associates, extended condolences to the family of Orbih over the death of the PDP stalwart.
“On behalf of myself, my family and political associates, I commiserate with the family of Chief M.C.K. Orbih, on the demise of Chief Dan Orbih, a good friend, a great politician, and a man of faith in the Almighty God,” he said.
“May his soul rest in peace.”
The late Orbih is survived by his wife, Mrs. Florence Orbih; his children, Winifred Orbih and Dr. Mildred Orbih; brothers and sisters, as well as other members of his extended family.
