The Industrial Training Fund (ITF) said on Wednesday it had begun training 3,000 youths in 18 vocational trades and crafts, under its Technical Skills and Development Programme (TISDP).

A statement signed by Mrs. Suleyol Chagu, Head of its Public Affairs Department, quoted Mr Joseph Ari, ITF Director General, as saying that the one year training, holding in 18 centres, was being carried out in collaboration with the Nigeria Employers Consultative Association (NECA).

It listed the trades and crafts to include electrical and electronic maintenance, auto mechanic, welding fabrication, building construction, carpentry and joinery, among others.

The statement said that 18 organisations were participating in the exercise and listed them to include Nigerdock Plc, Nigeria Breweries and Truck Masters.

It further quoted Ari as saying that the participants would receive financial and logistics support to start up their businesses on completion of the training.

“We expect that when the trainees become managers of their outfits, they will engage others and reduce the number of jobless youths,” it said.

The statement said that the training programme was part of President Mohammed Buhari’s agenda for industrialization, job and wealth creation, and a buoyant Nigerian economy. (NAN)
