American YouTuber and live streamer, Darren Jason Watkins Jr., better known as IShowSpeed, has been officially granted Ghanaian citizenship after completing his month-long tour across Africa.
The 21-year-old content creator, renowned for his energetic streams and massive online following, wrapped up the tour on Tuesday, January 27, after visiting 20 countries on the continent.
Foreign Minister of Ghana, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced the decision on social media, stating that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had approved the issuance of a Ghanaian passport to IShowSpeed after confirming his “irrefutable ties” to the country.
“Following our discussions and subsequent confirmation of the irrefutable ties of IShowSpeed to Ghana, I am pleased to inform you and our compatriots that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has approved the issuance of a Ghanaian Passport to IShowSpeed,” Ablakwa posted.
The move aligns with Ghana’s “Beyond the Return” initiative, aimed at strengthening connections with the African diaspora and promoting the nation globally.

IShowSpeed’s Africa tour, which began on December 29, 2025, captivated millions of viewers as he live-streamed experiences from various nations, including tasting Nigerian jollof, exploring a diamond mine in Botswana, and attending the Africa Cup of Nations final in Morocco.
Ghana served as the penultimate stop, where the streamer engaged with local culture and fans, further solidifying his bond with the West African nation.
IShowSpeed, who boasts over 50 million YouTube subscribers, has yet to publicly comment on the citizenship grant.
However, his tour has been credited with showcasing a positive, diverse image of Africa to his global audience.
This development positions IShowSpeed as an unofficial ambassador for Ghana, potentially boosting tourism and cultural exchange through his platform.
