Iran has announced plans to hold a state funeral for its slain security chief, Ali Larijani, as tensions in the Middle East deepen following a wave of retaliatory missile strikes against Israel.

The latest escalation saw Iranian missiles hit areas near Tel Aviv, killing two people, while Gulf states intercepted other projectiles targeting key installations, including US-linked facilities.

Iranian authorities confirmed that Larijani and Gholamreza Soleimani will be buried in Tehran, days after they were killed in Israeli airstrikes.

“Iran’s response to the assassination of the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council will be decisive and regrettable,” said army chief Amir Hatami.

“Iran’s response… will be decisive and regrettable.”

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that the broader consequences of the conflict are only beginning to unfold.

“The global repercussions of the war has only just begun and will hit all,” he said.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards declared that the killing would trigger sustained retaliation, describing it as a rallying point for what it called a “national awakening.”
