Iran conflict: Trump rules out Israeli nuclear strike on Iran

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday dismissed suggestions that Israel could resort to nuclear weapons in any potential conflict with Iran, describing such speculation as unfounded.

Speaking to reporters, Trump was reacting to comments by one of his advisers, David Sacks, who had floated the possibility during a podcast discussion that Israel might escalate a war to the point of considering nuclear options.

“Israel wouldn’t do that. Israel will never do that,” Trump said, firmly pushing back against the suggestion and seeking to calm fears of a nuclear dimension to the already volatile Middle East tensions.

Israel has long maintained a policy of deliberate ambiguity over its nuclear capabilities, neither confirming nor denying possession of such weapons a stance widely interpreted as a strategic effort to deter adversaries while avoiding direct international scrutiny.

Over the years, Israeli officials have consistently maintained that the country would not be the first to introduce nuclear weapons into the Middle East, even as concerns about regional proliferation persist.

However, estimates by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute suggest that Israel possesses about 90 nuclear warheads, placing it among the world’s undeclared nuclear powers.

Trump’s remarks come at a time of heightened geopolitical tension in the region, with ongoing hostilities raising fears of broader escalation, even as global powers continue to watch closely for any shift that could further destabilise the fragile security balance.
