Police Public Relations Officer, FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh said Nigerians expect policemen and other service personnel to live in poverty to prove integrity.
She said this mindset must change, noting that integrity is proven by character and not appearance.
Adeh said this in an X post on Wednesday in apparent reaction to controversy generated by Akwa Ibom police spokesperson, Timfon John.
Earlier, John shared a photo of herself holding an iPhone 17, which costs nearly N2 million, via her X handle.
The photo stirred controversy, with many netizens questioning how she could afford such on a policeman’s pay.
In apparent reaction, Adeh said, “Are police officers now expected to be the poorest people in Nigeria?
“Let’s stop normalising the idea that anyone in uniform must live in poverty to prove integrity.
“Integrity is measured by conduct, not by the phone in one’s hand.”
