Marking the International Day of Families on May 15, 2026, First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu has called on government, the private sector, civil society and communities to collaborate on family-centred policies that reduce inequalities and improve child wellbeing.

In a statement to coincide with this year’s theme: “Families, Inequalities and Child Wellbeing,” the First Lady said the observance highlights the vital role families play in shaping societies and nurturing future generations. She warned that widening disparities are undermining family stability and the development of children across the country.

“The wellbeing of every child is deeply connected to the strength, security and support systems available to their families,” Tinubu said, urging stakeholders to prioritise inclusion, equity and sustainable development in programmes that support households.

She called for renewed commitment to “building stronger families and a more just society, where no child is left behind and every home becomes a foundation of love, values and prosperity.”

The First Lady concluded by extending greetings to Nigerians and the global community on the International Day of Families.
