A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rotimi Makinde, has called on the Northerners to wake up to the attempt to recolonise the region by some external influence.

He said the earlier they realise the truth and stop reading blame on leadership, the better for the peace of the region and the country at large.

In a chat with our Correspondent in Osun State, Makinde who represented Ife federal constituency in the 7th assembly, said the insecurity in Nigeria should be seen as a problem confronting the country, saying that blame trade is not the solution but collective efforts to end the crime.

“To effectively address this menace, it’s imperative to declare a state of emergency and implement a comprehensive strategy to tackle the root causes and consequences of kidnapping.

“I really wonder why the most hit region -the northern part of Nigeria, is failing to admit this satanic attack as a tactical and strange re-colonisation coming from outside, and why our various security agencies are not looking at it from that perspective.

“Not until we all see it as a war “not of the Hausas but of a tribe seeking to dominate the larger Nigeria with intention to establish their colonies in this jet age, then we shall continue to handle it with levity. It is as bad as that,” Makinde said.

On the 2026 governorship election in Osun, Makinde advised the party leadership of the All Progressives Congress to be careful in the choice of candidate to represent the party, saying “The manner at which we handle this shall be the deciding factor of the fate of our party.”

He warned that the party must not go into election with disunity to avoid a repeat of the 2022 election.

Noting that the agitation for zoning is not necessary, Makinde said the focus should be to unite and work with whoever the party presented for the success of the party.

He, however, advised the leadership to take urgent step and come out with their choice so that aggrieve members can be quickly persuaded and move forward.
