On Tuesday, August 11, 2026, troops of the Nigerian Army arrived in Omu-Aran, Irepodun Local Government, Kwara State, as the newly approved Army battalion began settling into its designated temporary operational site.

The deployment followed the approval by President Bola Tinubu for the establishment of the new Nigerian Army battalion. It came shortly after senior Army officers inspected the proposed permanent and temporary sites on July 27.

The troops were received by Chairman, Irepodun LG, Abdulazeez Aremu Yakubu, alongside traditional rulers, and other stakeholders.

The arrival excited residents, saying it marked another significant step in the establishment of the new military formation, expected to strengthen security response capabilities in the local government and surrounding communities, particularly in addressing threats such as terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes.

The temporary site will serve as the battalion’s operational base pending the development of its permanent location.
