Insecurity: INEC to Introduce IDPs Voting, decentralised results collation

INEC-1

From Jude Dangwam, Jos

INEC says it is working on special voting arrangements so that internally displaced persons in Plateau State are not disenfranchised in the 2027 elections.

Resident Electoral Commissioner Samuel Egwu disclosed this during a courtesy visit by journalists in Jos. He said the commission is reviewing arrangements to meet security and logistical challenges.

Preliminary assessments have identified about nine local government areas with displacement issues. INEC is collecting data on eligible voters who may be unable to return home.

The commission has proposed six additional collation centres in Naraguta B Ward of Jos North to ease pressure from the large number of polling units. Similar plans are under consideration elsewhere.

Egwu said continuous voter registration added more than three million voters nationally. He urged registered voters to collect their permanent voter cards and stressed inclusiveness for persons with disabilities.
