The 2023 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewole Adebayo, has attributed Nigeria’s worsening insecurity to leadership failure rather than complexity, warning that citizens are increasingly overwhelmed by the scale of violence.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Adebayo said the persistent killings across the country reflect poor governance and a lack of political will, not an unmanageable security challenge.
He accused the government of mishandling the crisis and, in some cases, exploiting insecurity for political advantage, while failing to take decisive action to protect lives and property.

Adebayo also criticised both the ruling party and segments of the opposition, arguing that many political actors are entrenched in the same flawed system and are unable to deliver meaningful change.
According to him, Nigeria requires a fundamental restructuring of its political system rather than a mere смена of leadership.
He urged citizens to become more actively engaged in the democratic process by organising, voting responsibly, and holding leaders accountable, stressing that sustainable progress depends on public demand for effective governance.
