… Plans security summit

As part of measures to curb the lingering security challenges bedeviling Benue state, the Special Adviser to Governor Hyacinth Alia on Security and Internal Affairs, Chief Joseph Har, PSP, has stated that the state government would work closely with religious and traditional leaders to secure communities in the state.
Chief Har disclosed this while addressing participants at the Youth Bible Conference of the NKST Central Church, in Wadata area of Makurdi, the state capital.
Har was baptized in the NKST church in 1987 and has been attending services there as a young man before his sojourn outside the state.
He told them that he had visited to support the conference and share some useful security tips with them to enable them collaborate with state government in securing the state.
According to him, the government of Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia is putting together a security summit to sensitize the people on the security situation and how to handle it.
He told the congregation that the summit was necessary as the security situation in the country has called for proper education and sensitization of the citizenry.
He said summit would be held along side with stakeholders in faith based organizations, civil society organizations, traditional rulers, students and other unions in the state in order to sensitize the people on the current security situation and how to handle it.
While advising individuals at all levels to always be security cautious, Har said even in church, “be at alert, take stock of new comers and strangers in your midst and report any suspicious behaviour to the relevant authorities.
“We need to teach our people tips on Security and make them rehearse them until it becomes a way of life so that even children will know who to be friendly with.”
According to him, the government of Governor Hyacinth Alia is doing everything possible to provide adequate and needed security that would guaranteed lives and property.
“I have written about four books, one in English language, one translated in Tiv, Idoma and Igede language and we are addressing crime prevention through the leaders; traditional, religious, civil society and union leaders, in the state. If the leaders have a grip of the segment of the people they are ruling, then they will have a control of them and there will be an easy way of policing the society.
“In a short while, we will be having a summit comprising of all leaders in the state where we will brainstorm and teach people how to police the community how to get Intels for the government security agencies and how to collaborate with all stakeholders for peace and order in Benue.
Our correspondent reports that the security adviser supported the Youth Bible Conference with a donation of 100 bags of drinking water.
