Independent Newspapers Limited (INL) has officially announced the commencement of its 2026 annual award ceremony, celebrating a historic milestone as the media organization marks 25 years of operations in Nigeria.
The Silver Jubilee edition, themed “Gamechangers, Breaking Barriers & Shaping Tomorrow,” is scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the prestigious Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Speaking at a press conference in Lagos on Thursday, the Chairman of the Awards Committee, Yemi Adebisi, revealed that this year’s edition would introduce a significant change in the selection process. For the first time, the general public will be invited to participate in the voting process to determine winners across various categories.
“In a significant departure from previous editions, members of the public will participate in the voting process,” Adebisi stated. “Nominations will be assessed by the Board of Editors, an independent jury panel, and respected Nigerians to ensure credibility, fairness, and transparency.”
The awards will feature approximately 25 categories, with three nominees shortlisted for each. These categories will cover critical sectors, including business, governance, and the economy. Key honors to be conferred include: Man of the Year, Financial Sector Regulator of the Year, and Lifetime Achievement Award.
To be eligible, nominees must be Nigerian citizens or organizations operating within the country, with achievements specifically tied to the 2025 calendar year. Evaluations will be strictly based on measurable impact, innovation, leadership, and contributions to national development.
