Independence Day: Tinubu unveils jobs, industrial growth plan

Independence Day Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has unveiled a jobs and industrial growth plan aimed at turning Nigeria’s young population into a major driver of production, enterprise and economic expansion.

Tinubu announced the plan in his Independence Day address to Nigerians, saying job creation, enterprise and industrial growth would remain at the heart of the government’s next phase of economic policy.

“Nigeria is a young country. Millions of young Nigerians enter adulthood every year with talent, energy and ambition,” he said.

“Our responsibility is to ensure that this great demographic strength becomes an engine of production rather than a source of despair.”

The President said the government would use Nigeria’s gas resources to power new industries and support businesses working to revive factories in the country’s major industrial centres.

He also promised to expand digital connectivity to communities that have waited too long to participate in the modern economy, while investing in the skills required by employers.

“We will invest in the skills employers demand and support Nigerian businesses with the infrastructure and finance they need to grow,” Tinubu said.

He said his administration wanted to see more Nigerians producing goods locally, more farms supplying cities and factories, and more Nigerian businesses exporting their products to international markets.

“I want to see more Nigerians making things. I want to see more Nigerian farms feeding our cities and supplying our factories. I want to see Nigerian businesses selling Nigerian goods to the whole world,” he said.

Tinubu also expressed his ambition to see young Nigerians build globally recognised companies and create opportunities for others at home, saying productive work would be central to the country’s transition from reform to prosperity.

He said the government would pursue sustained economic growth and the creation of millions of productive opportunities, insisting that Nigeria’s large youth population must become an economic strength capable of driving the country’s next phase of development.
