Impossible possibilities

Impossible possibilities. Possible impossibilities. Spot the difference. One is godly, the other satanic.

Those with God know that there is no positive impossibility that cannot be transformed into a possibility. Just as those with Satan know that there is nothing their master or they can do about negative possibilities. Life is about choice: you pick this, you gain; you pick that, you lose. Winning ways is, for instance, to look at Luke (chapter one, verses 26 to 37).

Last week, a man received a younger guest who had come on appointment. The visitor, a don, Dr Victor Onwineng, told his host he had asked God what to share with him and the above scripture had dropped in his spirit. Then, he talked briefly about Mary wondering how this impossibility would be possible since she had never done that thing -you get it? Also, about how the Angel responded that God’s power (the highest that there is, with no good second whatsoever) shall overshadow her.

When the man narrated the above to this writer, inspiration for this entry immediately started gathering. There are no positive impossibilities with God. He can divide the Red Sea, can fix whatever, can heal whoever. He can make the blind see, can make the deaf hear, can make the dumb talk.

He can make a proven virgin or the certified barren pregnant. He can make dead, dry bones live again. He can turn mere water to vintage wine.

Positive impossibilities are so possible with God that you can call Him so. No goodness is too good to be too above Him. No help is too helpful to be too under Him (to render). Because God is the same, yesterday, today and forever, He has been in the business of miracles from the beginning; He still is; He forever shall be.

You know God? You believe God? No, you do not. You cannot know or believe God and be afraid, and be anxious, and be shaking.

In 2009 or 2010, a senior friend of mine, Mr Sam Ns’ubong, told me a story I can never forget. He was in Lagos, and an opening to travel outside of the country came to him via a phone call. He needed to be in Abuja the following day. With no money even for night bus, he did not see what magic he could perform to land in Abuja but he told himself there is no positive something that God cannot do.

He was restless the whole day, since he had no time. He trusted God to help him, but he kept thinking how God would do it. He told me that after thinking for hours on end to no avail, he decided to visit a rich uncle of his, who lived in the highbrow part of Lagos. This uncle, he explained, always offered him food -never money.

At the uncle’s, his wife and children offered him food. Thereafter, he sat down with the cousins to supervise their homework. Then, their father returned from work, and without any form of prompting by Mr Ns’ubong sent him on an Abuja errand. “Sammy, I need you to go and get Abuja return ticket for tomorrow morning: you need to hand deliver an important parcel for me.”

God did it. “Guyman” bought one-way ticket, got into Abuja, delivered the parcel and left Nigeria. That was God. Just trust Him.

In fact, you do not even need to trust God or do anything for God to be God. You do not need to be on God’s side for Him to bless or favour you. He is God all by Himself. He seeks no validation: He never needs it.

The Bible is replete with God’s extraordinary goodness to man. Check them out: Adam, Abraham, Sarah, Moses, David, Naomi, Joseph, Naman, Ezekiel, the woman with the issue of blood, etc. Today, we know for sure that it could only have been God when we remember Olusegun Obasanjo’s near-fatal prison experience culminating in the presidency, or Goodluck Jonathan’s meteoric rise from lecturer at a Nigerian university to deputy governor to state governor to vice president to president of Nigeria, or Barack Obama becoming the first-ever black president of the United States of America. Former governor of my home state of Akwa Ibom, Mr Udom Emmanuel, propounded the “Only God” theory in the build-up to his re-election in 2019 and it is one theory, or rather one factor too many people ignore.

However, the God factor is a constant, is a given, is a goal. It never fails, it always saves, it matters eternally. The God factor is never factored in by the big boys and girls of life let alone by the big men and women of power. Yet, it exists and almost always, at the nick of time, it shows up: summarily, conclusively and totally.

Only God can come through like that. When all hope is gone. When it does not look like God exists or is interested. When man’s connections, knowledge and power fail.

Before, to and with God, positive impossibility is nothing. Of course, there are many other sweet sides to God. He is not a man, nor can any man or woman or child stop Him. Nothing a man or woman or child does or does not do can stop God from helping that man, that woman, that child who is chosen; not even the greatest sin: unbelief.

Are you trapped in a very bleak cul-de-sac? Are you in financial dire straits? Have the doctors said it is over? Has corruption, desperate to flaunt the clean hands it does not have to equity, scapegoated you?

Is a useless system haunting you down? Have those who think themselves God concluded on your case, sent you to jail and thrown away the keys? Or, yours is the yoke of a terribly mean, stingy and satanic ruler? Be calming down: only God.

Pharaoh, Goliath, Saul, Haman, Hitler, Idi Amin, Iran’s so-called Supreme Leader, Khamenei, and company were “badder,” even “baddest” tormentors of humanity. Still, one day, one day, the God factor showed up and their place is empty as we speak. The oppressed need not worry or do anything apart from keep alive while waiting for divine intervention. The guy by the pool of Bethesda thought it was about someone pushing him into stirred water. But, when Jesus showed up, the poor guy discovered he had wasted nearly four decades looking for solution at the wrong place.

Come to Jesus, my dear: turn to Him now, even if you cannot. Only believe: only God. That injustice, that siege, that wickedness shall end in praise. Strive to stay alive, fear not, wait: God is coming, in fact, He has come.

God bless Nigeria!

*Dear Senator OBA …*

Even Satan is sad over this horrendous bad news. For some of his agents though, who not knowing enough are all over the place rejoicing, may you enjoy the blessings embedded in Proverbs 24:17-18. Do not fret, do not give up, do not think God has left you.

Because, believe me, He has not. And, He shall not. Obong Bassey Albert Akpan, God is with you now; more than He has even been.

And, quit thinking some man did this. That man did nothing; that man (any man for that matter) has got no such powers. Stop arrogating, start understanding so you can be free and therefore ready to receive.

And, did you know that Psalm 23 was written for you? It was and it is, for this time and going forward. Look at it, even if you cannot, now and again; from verse 1:  “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2 “He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me.

5 “Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.” Amen!

The truth is that although it does not look like it, you shall rise again, and you shall laugh again, and you shall enter that high ground again. You shall end on a high. Just a matter of time and these same mouths shall speak something totally gloriously different.

This is the Word of the Lord -just for you!
