Imo North court verdict: I’ve been robbed

Law-Court

From Fred Itua, Abuja
The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Athan Achonu, has described yesterday’s ruling at the Appeal Court, Abuja, which favoured his All Progressives Congress’ (APC) opponent, Senator Ben Uwajimogu, as robbery.
Speaking to newsmen in Abuja yesterday, Achonu urged the media and the judiciary to protect the country’s democracy from the hands of greedy politicians.
“I came out to change a system where there are Senators who were given N500 million yearly, but they did not do anything in their constituencies. I am afraid for 2019. I am afraid that some people will be in their houses and INEC will write results for them.”
Delivering judgment, Justice Abdullahi Aboki, who read it on behalf of four others, said Achonu failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt that he won the election.
